Dr. Mahyar Amouzegar (PhD, UCLA) is the Dean of Engineering at CalPoly Pomona and a consultant to the Department of Defense on military issues. He plays a key role in developing academic, research and development strategies for the College of Engineering, which houses seven departments and twelve ABET accredited programs. The College has nearly two hundred faculty and staff and over 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
Dr. Amouzegar has been leading large scale projects aimed at evaluating the impact of combat support options on the effectiveness and efficiency of the military operations, including humanitarian missions. His research includes assessments of strategic locations, allocation and transportation of materiel across the globe, evaluation of the nuclear enterprises and analysis of mission assurance policies through networked space, air, surface and cyberspace domains.
Dr. Amouzegar spent a year, at the British Ministry of Defense in London, working on mobility requirements for combat models. Prior to Cal Poly Pomona, Dr. Amouzegar was an associate dean for research at CSULB, a senior military analyst at RAND and a professor of operations research at Massey University in New Zealand and at UCLA. He is the founding editor of the Journal of Applied Mathematics and Decision Sciences, a contributing editor of the International Abstract in Operations Research and on the editorial boards of Advances in Operations Research and International Journal of Strategic Decision Sciences. Dr. Amouzegar is a fellow at IMA (UK) and ICA (Canada), and a Senior Member of IEEE. He is also the immediate past president of the Western Decision Sciences Institute and an active member of the board of Military Application Society, as well as, serving on several industry advisory boards. Dr. Amouzegar has numerous refereed journal publications and books in the fields of logistics, engineering and operations research.
