Background

Dr. Muditha Senanayake is an Associate Professor who has 15 years of academic and 5 years of industry experience both in Sri Lanka and the USA. His academic career started at the University of Moratuwa (Sri Lanka) and continued at NC State University, Berkeley College (NJ) and Kansas State University before he joined Cal Poly, Pomona. In the Apparel Industry he has worked as a Project Manager for Process Analysis and Improvement, Manager for Product Development and Pre-Production and as a Manager for Research & Development. He also continues to work as a management and technical consultant to the apparel industry. As one of the founding members of the Apparel Made for you (AM4U) project, he is currently the Senior Advisor for AM4U Inc.

 

Teaching

Dr. Senanayake has developed and/or taught courses in textile science, apparel manufacturing, product development, quality management, supply chain management, operations management, research methods and market research. He is a GSD practitioner and has AIMS and Six Sigma (Black Belt) certification. Recognizing his commitment to his students, Dr. Senanayake has been awarded the Mack H. Kennington Advisor of the Year Award in 2011 and the AMM Teacher of the Year award in 2012.

 

Scholarship

Dr. Senanayake’s research interests revolve around apparel Customization & Personalization where he looks at this important trend from the point of view of manufacturing, retailing and consumer decision-making in addition to current technology developments. He is currently involved in research related to technology development and integration, production and operations management to achieve customization and personalization. His previous research projects addressed apparel product development and production. He has obtained several external and internal grants to continue his research interests. He also continues his interest as a manuscript reviewer for several top tier journals and conference proceedings.

 

In addition to several journal publications, Dr. Senanayake has continuously published in number of conference proceedings and has presented research finding in national and international conferences. He is currently involved in writing a book chapter for Woodhead publishers. He has been a keynote speaker and has experience in organizing conferences and workshops. He holds professional membership in the Textile Institute (UK-Chartered Member), ITAA, AAFA, HKRITA (HK), IIMCPC (Germany), and MCPC (MIT).
