For New Members

The Cal Poly Pomona Motorcycle club is a chartered club with ASI and is over 2 year old. We are a non-profit organization with the intent to spread interest of the motorcycle community to the campus. We are in the engineering council and are building a project vehicle. We have over 150 members 50% of which do not own their own motorcycles. There are 30 female members (some ride), and 8 teachers and staff. 50% of our riders operate race bikes, 25% ride cruisers, 25% ride dirt, and there are 5 scooters. We have meetings at A&W on Holt in Pomona every other Friday at 6:00pm. We also meet occasionally on Sunday for a street run. We usually meet in the building 98 parking lot at some appointed time and decide then where we go. This is a good way to meet people. Every quarter we have a bbq party. Sometimes we have more passengers than bikes so if you ride and want to make new friends, come ride with us. Every other month we have a dirt bike trip to Vegas or somewhere. These trips have been a lot of fun with good turn outs. We help anyone who wants to learn to ride. We will offer members options to get their license, help study and practice for the tests, help members pick out their first motorcycles, and design trips for beginners. We will even ride the bike for you but we will not purchase it. We have several sponsors who offer members discounts on stuff like motorcycle accessories, parts, helmets, etc… Look at the website for the sponsors list and description. We are a free club with no membership dues and are open to all Cal Poly students, teachers, and employees. Members who sign the liability waiver are eligible for the membership card that can be redeemed for discounts from our sponsors. No discounts can be received without a card. We are financed from sponsorships and fundraising. We currently have around 10 sponsors and eventually I want 50 per year. We currently have about $500 and will probably have $1,000 by the end of the year. We have the ability to have fundraisers, some of which are in the works. Our charity is PKU Parents of California. They are a non-profit organization that helps kids with a really nasty genetic disease called PKU. Basically if a child with PKU eats protein, their brain cells die. Untreated children grow up to be adults with 8-year-old mentalities. The non-protein diet these people have to use to survive is very expensive. The only way this organization works is by the efforts of its members. We have 6 officers, three advisors, and lots of helpful members. Ride captains are members who are in charge of a particular event. Elizabeth Hackbarth is the President and leads the new rider runs and insures that we keep with the plan. I, Chris Quirk, am the Consultant and help keep the club organized. I write the weekly email, designate duties, and due most of the fundraising. Jonathan Levy is the Vice President and in charge of making our grand designs come to life. Dale Herzog is the treasurer, keeps the books in order, helps with promotion, and keeps us out of trouble. Scott Sepulveda is the Secretary and has been very helpful in fundraisers and getting new members. Our advisors are Dr. Thacker and Mark Greenwood. They are most helpful with advice and ideas. Our rules are simple, be safe and cause no problems or leave. All events have safety rules described at the beginning of the event such as we ride staggered, do not feel up the passenger or driver when sharing a motorcycle, pass other bikes only in another lane. Members who perform unsafe behavior will receive a warning or two before being asked to leave. Anyone repeatedly being asked to leave events, causes us to loose a sponsor, intentionally causes harm to other members or property, or distributes drugs in any way, will have a meeting with the officers and may be kicked out of the club there after. Anyone found distributing any illegal drugs to members (pot too) will be given to local law enforcement with their evidence and left there. The consultant personally enforces this rule. To date we have had dozens of events with only four warnings of unsafe behavior and five accidents with no permanent injuries. I hope this answers all questions. Let me know what you think.
