Meet Anthony W. Reed!
Prior to assuming the role of BGCAPP deputy site project manager, Mr. Reed was the site project manager for the Newport Chemical Agent Disposal Facility (NECDF) in Newport, Ind., where he lead the government team through the final closure of the NECDF.
In this position he was responsible for overseeing the systems contractor responsible for the decommissioning, decontamination, demolition, disposal and complete closure of the facility. The NECDF was used to destroy ton containers of bulk VX nerve agent stored at the Newport Chemical Depot (NECD). Mr. Reed also served as a Deputy Site Project Manager during the operations phase of NECDF. In this capacity he was responsible for overseeing the systems contractor in all aspects of compliance with local, state, federal and Department of the Army regulations.
Before joining the Army’s Chemical Demilitarization Program, Mr. Reed worked in private industry as a plant manager for a light assembly and welding operation. In 2007, he worked as a general contractor where he designed, assembled and built timber frame residential homes on the coast of Maine. From 1998 to 2006, he served as an operations manager in the commercial chemical industry, managing laboratory, pilot and full-scale resin production processes. He started his career in 1994 as an environmental engineer, managing regulatory compliance in an industrial manufacturing setting.
Mr. Reed graduated from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1991. He completed his master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Maine in 1994, with his thesis work focusing on the fate and transport of pesticide residues in surface and ground water. In May of 2010, Mr. Reed received the Superior Civilian Service Award for the safe and successful closure of the Newport Chemical Agent Disposal Facility. He has been a member of the Department of the Army Acquisition Corps since 2010 and holds a level 3 certification in his Acquisition Career Field.
