In Addition to hosting the 2005 IPhO, Salamanca was also celebrating the 250th anniversary of the completion of its beautiful Plaza Mayor, seen in the two pictures to the right.

Students and guide search for the frog sculpture on the university facade. Sighting it is suppposed to guarantee good luck on exams. The opening reception was held at the Patio de Escuelas. 342 students from 77 countries competed in the 36th IPhO.

In addition to exams, there were tours to see nearby attractions the Roman Aqueduct in Segovia and the Fountains of La Granja. And everywhere we went the Cruz Roja was there to ensure our health.

All representatives of the US Physics Team earned a medal at the 36th International Physics Olympiad in Salamanca, Spain. Daniel Whalen received a bronze medal. Nickolas Fortino and Timothy Credo recived silver medals. Menyoung Lee and Eric Mecklenburg received gold medals.
