Prerequisites for Mathematics & Statistics Courses

Prerequisites For Calculus Courses

The table below shows the minimal entry requirements for Introductory calculus courses: Math 114 (Analytic Geometry and Calculus I), 120 (Calculus for the Life Sciences), 125 (Introductory Calculus for Business), and 130 (Technical Calculus I). These requirements are in addition to the California State University System's ELM requirement.

Calculus Course	-10		COURSEWORK completed no later than the previous 3 quarters
MATH 114 / 130	PreCalculus MDPT Algebra subscore 30-50 with trig subscore of 8-10	or	C in Math 112
			or B in both Math 105 and Math 106
	OR PreCalculus MDPT Algebra subscore of 37-50 with trig subscore of 5-10

MATH 120	PreCalculus Algebra subscore of 30-50 with trig subscore of 0-7	or	C or better in Math 105
	OR Algebra subscore of 25-29 with trig subscore of 0-7

MATH 125	Precalculus MDPT Algebra subscore of 20-30	or	C or better in Math 012, 105,106, 191, or Stat 120
	OR Math Analysis score of 27-45

*Students who have an algebra subscore of at least 37 and are currently enrolled in Math 106 must see the Mathematics Department in 8-113 BEFORE preregistration. Banner is currently not programmed to handle this case, and you will not be able to preregister for Math 114 without the help of the Mathematics Department.

Prerequisites For First Year Courses Other Than Calculus

The table below shows the minimal entry requirements for Entry Level courses other than calculus: Math 105 (College Algebra), 106 (Trigonometry), 112 (Preparation for Calculus), 191 (Survey of Mathematics), and Stat 120 (Statistics with Applications). These requirements are in addition to the California State University System's ELM requirement.

Course	SAT test taken within the last 18 months or ELM test taken within last 12 months		MDPT taken during the previous 3 quarters		COURSEWORK completed no later than the previous 3 quarters
MATH 105	SAT I or II score of 550 or ACT of 23	or	PreCalculus Algebra subscore of 20	or	C or better in Math 012 or any GE math course
		OR	Math Analysis score of 27

MATH 106	SAT I or II score of 550 or ACT of 23	or	Precalculus algebra subscore of 20	or	C or better in Math 012or any GE math course
		OR	Math Analysis score of 27

MATH 112			Precalculus algebra subscore of 25 and trig score of 5	and	C or better in Math 105+ and Math 106+

MATH 191	ELM score of 50 or SAT score of 550 or ACT score of 23	or	Precalculus algebra subscore of 20	or	C or better in Math 12 or any GE level Math course
		OR	Math Analysis score of 24

STAT 120	ELM score of 50 or SAT score of 550 or ACT score of 23	or	Precalculus algebra subscore of 20	or	C* in Math 12 or any GE level Math course
		OR	Math Analysis score of 24

* A minimum grade of "C" or better. (C- will not satisfy this requirement.)

+With certain MDPT scores, students must see the Mathematics department in 8-113 BEFORE preregistering for M112 while currently enrolled in Math 105/106 as phone registration is not able to handle these exceptions.
