Cal Poly Pomona students enrolled in Science 212 develop their classroom teaching skills during the Earth Science Practical Teaching Experience at Redwood Elementary School, Fontana Unified School District.
Science 212 is a required science education course for Liberal Studies majors pursuing a multiple subject teaching credential (K-8). Students learn Earth Science fundamentals, lesson planning strategies, and hands-on classroom pedagogy. Course curriculum aligned with the California State Teaching Content Standards. Students gain practical teaching experience through required Service Learning project at a local elementary school. Two lecture discussions (1 hr., 15 min. ea.) and one laboratory session (3 hrs.) per week. Required field trips during lab session. Prerequisite: SCI 210 and SCI 211, or permission of instructor.
