Earth Science Education students – Service Learning Project
at Redwood
Elementary School, Fontana, CA
Dr. Jeff Marshall is an experienced science
educator. He teaches Cal Poly
Pomona’s Earth Science Education course (SCI 212), and is a
contributing faculty member of the College of Science - Center for Education
and Equity in Mathematics, Science, and Technology (CEEMaST).
Dr. Marshall teaches a series of Earth Science content
workshops for local teachers, offered through Cal Poly Pomona’s San Gabriel Valley Science
Project (California Math and Science Partnership - CaMSP, and Science
Teachers Learning from Leason Analysis - STeLLA). He is also involved in Cal Poly Pomona’s
Teacher Quality Enhancement initiative (TQE),
working with other faculty to develop Science Education curriculum.
In partnership with Redwood
Elementary School in Fontana, Dr. Marshall directs a Service
Learning Project for Elementary Education students enrolled in his Earth
Science Education course (SCI 212). These students develop Earth Science
lesson plans and hands-on learning activities, which they present to
schoolchildren in a real classroom.
With his Geology Department colleagues, Dr. Marshall
co-authored an exercise
manual for use in Earth Science Education. He also serves as an Event
Captain with the Los
Angeles County Science Olympiad held annually at Cal Poly Pomona.
