Research Interests:

      • Earth surface processes: Quaternary geology, geomorphology, and sedimentology

      • tectonic geomorphology, fault kinematics, earthquake hazards, paleo-seismology

      • convergent margin tectonics, geochronology, and landscape evolution (esp. Central America)

      • geomorphology of marine and fluvial terraces, paleo-shore deposits, and river gravels

      • coastal processes, beach sediments, wave erosion, wavecut platforms, coastal cliffs

      • tectonic geomorphology and sedimentology of mountain-front alluvial fans

      • soil geomorphology, rock weathering, hillslope erosion, regional denudation

      • fluvial geomorphology, stream channel hydrology, erosion and sediment transport

      • watershed and stream restoration: applications of geomorphic and sedimentological principles

      • flood dynamics, flood hazards, integrated watershed management and flood-control engineering

      • landslide hazards and geomorphology (landslides, debris flows, and coastal cliff failure)

      • landscape and watershed response to climate change and human land-use

      • geomorphic applications of remote sensing, GPS and GIS, and numerical simulations
