Students who have failed the GWT are now being enrolled in a Blackboard organization called GWT Reading Intervention. This program helps students develop their reading comprehension skills as a strategy for improving their reading and writing long-term and preparing to pass the GWT.
Students are asked to read a series of articles that cover a range of topics. Each article is preceeded by a set of prereading questions that ask you to make predictions about the article. After reading, students are then directed to answer another set of questions that test their understanding of the article$s main ideas and content, how specific details and vocabulary are use, and so on. Finally, students are asked to write an outline for a possible paper on a prompt related to the ideas presented in the article.
Students who struggle with the GWT are highly encouraged to take advantage of this program before their next attempt at the test.
For futher information, please make an appointment at the LRC to see a GWT consultant in the Writing Center.
