Scholarship OverviewThe Hilda L. Solis Scholarship Dinner and Reception is named in honor of Cal Poly Pomona Alumna, Hilda L. Solis, who currently serves as the Secretary of Labor under President Barack Obama, making her the first Latina to serve as a United States Cabinet member. The Hilda L. Solis Scholarship Dinner and Reception recognizes high achieving students who help make a difference in the lives of others. Often, they are the first in their families to go to college, and many have great financial need. Nevertheless, they manage to succeed academically, while finding significant ways to give back to their community. This event is co-sponsored by the Latino Professional Alumni Chapter (LPAC) and the César E. Chávez Center for Higher Education. The scholarships serve to recognize and support Cal Poly Pomona's growing Chicano/Latino population. Apply for the Hilda L.
