Create a Title & insert in movie
How to Create a New Title
- When you create a title, it is saved as a still image within the Project Window.
- Can then drag the title file onto the timeline
- Lengthen the duration of the title by
- right-clicking it and selecting Speed/Duration and lowering the speed number or
- Selecting the title clip in the timeline with the selection tool (to the right of the timeline) and clicking on the right edge of the title clip (the selection tool turns red and changes shape) and dragging it to the right.
- Existing styles can be imported into the Title designer window for modification by double-clicking them in Project window
- Click Title>New Title>Based on Current Title in menu bar to build a new title with different text that will have the same styling as the existing title
Create opening Still title for movie:
- In the Timeline, locate the Timeline marker at the point where you want the title to start, so you can see the video that will display behind it.
- To open the Title window to create a new Title,
- click File>New>title or
- click the New file button on the Project window (looks like a file) and select Title or
- Click Title>New Title on the menu bar
- The Title window that opens has text tools and a drawing area and is the same size as the video (see image above)
- Select the text tool and type some text in the window.
- With the text selected, change the properties of the text object by selecting a preset text style from the ceter window or adjust the controls in the right window.
- Many of these property controls are scrubbable,
- Scrubbable properties are ones that display a little hand when the mouse cursor rolls over them.
- change the text property by clicking on the control and dragging the control to the right or left.
- Dragging to the left decreases the value, and to the right increases the value of the property
Try some adjustments to see effects:
- Font size
- aspect
- leading - sets spacing between lines of text
- kerning - sets spacing between characters (selected ones)
- slant
- Distort - both x and y axes
- Fill type
- highlight color
- shadow color
save new style for reuse
- Highlight your text (select text tool)
- Click right arrow on styles window
- Select New Style on popup window and type in name of style.
Insert title into Video
- Select the type tool and type an appropriate
title for movie opening
- Under Title menu can adjust font, font size,
bold, color, etc.
- Elect to have shadow
- Type in your title
- Save title (ctrl>s) with an appropriate name
in same folder as you saved movie project
- Title now appears in Project window -- drag title down into upper Video track at beginning of movie
- Extend duration of title by dragging its right
border to the right with the timeline select tool.
- Save Project
- Press Enter key to build preview
