Premiere rolling & Crawling titles

Titles can roll vertically or crawl horizontally

  • vertically up or down screen
  • horizontally across screen (either direction)

Speed of moving text

  • determined by duration you specify for the title in the Timeline
  • if you originally specify a duration of 20 seconds for a rolling title, and then you change the duration to ten seconds, the title rolls twice as fast to move the same number of lines across the screen in half the time
  • Can adjust ease in and ease out speed in Titles>

Open Title editing window

File>New>Title

To create rolling or crawling type:

  • Select roll or crawl iin the Title Type dropdown list
  • Select the Text tool (either horizontal or vertical)
  • Drag from the upper left to specify the size of the text object that will contain the rolling title.
    • The text box for a rolling title should be within the left-right edges of the title-safe zone in the title box
    • A crawl should have a box that extends beyond the right edge of the title-safe zone in the title box.
  • Dragging the rolling title tool (left) creates an empty rolling title text object (right).

Type the text you want in the title.To make sure the text rolls or crawls:

  • type enough text to fill the text box
  • If you don't have enough text, overfill the box using blank spaces
  • To create blank spaces for rolling text, press Enter
  • To create blank spaces for crawling text, press the spacebar.

With the rolling title still selected, choose Title > Rolling Title Options on the menu bar.

  • You can choose to start and end the roll or crawl off screen
  • you can ease the roll or crawl in or out.
  • Click OK
  • Save the title: File>Save As
  • Test in upper Track of your movie.
