Photoshop Styles
Styles Palette
- The styles palette is to the right of the color & swatches palette
- or open by clicking Window
Download styles from the Internet
- Adobe Photoshop Exchange has user-created presets that are rated by other users, including styles
- Need to be a registered user to download
- Need to download their "download toolkit" and install it on your computer
- Their styles are rated by viewers
Load into Styles Palette
- Click symbol that looks like down arrow with 4 horizontal lines next to it at upper right of Actions Palette and on the pop-up menu
- click on one of the Styles sets at the bottom of the pop-up menu, such as Glass Buttons
- Or choose Load Styles
- open the folder that holds styles -- the PhotoshopCS3>Presets>Styles subdirectory
- click a style file (ends in .asl) to load it into the Actions Palette
Apply a preset style to a layer
- Select the layer to which the style will be applied, such as a layer with text or a button image in it
- Applying a preset style usually replaces the current layer style.
- Click a style in the Styles palette to apply it to the selected layer.
- Drag a style from the Styles palette onto the layer

Drag a style from the Styles palette to the document window, and release the mouse button when the pointer is over the layer content to which you want to apply the style.
Apply Blending Options to the style
- Choose Layer > Layer Style > Blending Options
- click the word Styles in the Layer Styles dialog box (top item in the list on the left side of the dialog box).
- Click the style you want to apply, and click OK.
