Drawing techniques: Filters

Prepare the Image

  • Open an image in Photoshop, such as woman.jpg
  • Crop away any part you want to omit.
  • If you wait until after you apply the filter to change the image dimensions to make it smaller, you will probably get better filter effects, although it will take longer to render them
  • Create a duplicate layer of your image so the original layer remains unaffected.
  • Use a new duplicate layer for each filter you want to keep so you can try mixing their effects later by lowering the opacity of the layers and allowing the lower layers to be visible..

Experiment with Sketch filters

  • Click Filters> Filter Gallerey to open window that lets you try filter effects out on the image
  • Open the Sketch folder
  • Try different filters on your image.
  • Vary stroke size, pressure, light/dark balance, etc.
  • Try Artistic Filters
