Cropping Images
Cropping images to delete unnecessary areas is something that all photographers and Web developers have to do to compose their images for the greatest impact. Cropping is especially important for the Web because file size is critical. One of the most effective means of reducing file size is to reduce the dimensions of an image. Get rid of everything that is not essential and usually the image will be more powerful and take less time to download.
Practice cropping
- Open an image
- Save the image with a new name as a PSD file
- Select the crop tool and start in the upper leftmost point where you want to begin the crop
- Drag the crop tool down and to the right
- View the intended crop and adjust the sides to suit the best composition
- If you want the resulting image to be a fixed size, adjust the settings in the crop options bar at the top of the Photoshop window.
- Enter the width, height and dpi that you want. The crop tool will confine the crop to your specifications.
- Be sure to indicate px for pixels after the width and height numbers or the crop may be done in inches, and your cpu will enter an endless loop.
