PhotoShop Actions

  • are like macros that automatically run a series of commands in Photoshop for functions that might be done repetitively.
  • Photoshop has a number of built-in actions that you can use to create beveled buttons, frames around photos, diffuse photo edges, etc.
    • Actions have the file format .atn
  • It is also possible to download actions from the web that individuals have developed and are willing to share.
  • Check out these sites for Actions you can download free:
  • Actions may be downloaded as ATN files or in a ZIP file which should be unzipped into the Photoshop>Presets>Photoshop Actions folder
    • You can then load the imported action into Photoshop by clicking on the right-pointing arrow on the right side of the actions palette and selecting "load actions".
  • Adobe Photoshop Exchange has user-created presets that are rated by other users
