Types of Disabilities we need to address *

Visual Disabilities:

  • Blindness
  • low vision -- affects older people, and people with certain eye disorders:
    • Glaucoma destroys peripheral vision
    • Macular Degeneration destroys central vision
    • other eye disorders
  • color blindness affects 8 % of all people, and 12% of males -- links to types

Hearing Disabilities:

Motor Disabilities

  • Physically cannot use mouse
  • fine motor skills impaired
  • modality that person uses to interact with Web page may be very tiring.
  • loss of limbs

Cognitive Disabilities (also applies to those with low reading skills

  • Learning disabilities, such as dyslexia, that make it hard to understand written material
  • Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD), which makes it hard to concentrate
  • brain injuries or trauma
  • genetic disorders
  • mental retardation
  • Jumbled text

Seizure Disorders

  • Photoepileptic seizure some people get seizures when they see strobe light, flickering light or flashing light.
