Class handouts Instructional Objectives After completing this course, students should be able to do the following: 1. Make calculations for the fugacities and activities for mixtures and pure substances. 2. Determine the phase boundaries for vapor-liquid equilibria. 3. Use activity coefficient models for highly nonideal solutions. 4. Understand and implement phase equilibrium conditions. 5. Learn Gibbs phase rule, Gibbs-Duhem relation, Raoult's law, Henry's law. 6. Apply van Laar, Margules, NRTL, and Wilson methods for activities. 7. Calculate equilibrium compositions for chemical reactions from free energy data. 8. Calculate composition distributions for single and simultaneous chemical reactions. GRADE: No late homeworks or reports. No make-up exams. Academic Integrity As noted in the University Catalog: "All forms of academic dishonesty at Cal Poly Pomona are a violation of university policy and will be considered a serious offense." For this course "academic honesty” includes but is not limited to: “Plagiarism..., Cheating During Exams... and Use of Unauthorized Study Aids..." As a student in this class it is imperative that you maintain academic integrity and honesty. Cheating can result in a grade of F in this class, or worse! So don't do it.
