All You Need Is Kids
to order, call: 1-800-BEATLES
This cassette is an introduction to the Beatles' music and magic. All songs sung by children, making it easier for children to match pitch. All songs are very positive and some could be used for interpretation purposes for writing assignments. Would like to see a lyric sheet in large print accompany this cassette. The one that fits into the jacket is too small for most people. Good cassette.

Growing With Music Book 7
by H. Wilson, W.Ehret, A. Snyder, E Hermann, A. Renna
Publ.by Prentice - Hall, Inc., N J 1966
This is an appropriate book for teaching seventh graders about music, ranging from the Baroque period from 1600 -1700, through the Classical period 1760 - 1820, into the Romantic period 1820 - 1900, and the Modern period 1900 - 1970. The text would be useful for teaching musical vocabulary, significance of mood, style, tone and form. The author has prepared materials on rhythm, melody and harmony. Growing With Music has familiar old folk songs with slightly modified lyrics. A boxed set of albums is also available as a teaching aid. If a teacher is familiar with the songs, the book is an useful aid for learning the verses, unfortunately, it does not include all the verses of all the songs.

The book contains the sheet music and words for fifty-one of Raffi's popular songs off his first three records, "Singable Songs for the Very Young", "The Corner Grocery Store", and "More Singable Songs." As a beginning music student, I found it easy to read both the words and the music. Each song in the songbook is identified by the level of the song. Toward the end of the book there are guitar and ukelele chords, as well as notes on key changes. There is also a listing of which songs are the easiest to play do to few chord changes. A few colored illustrations can be found throughout the songbook. Highly recommended.

Teaching Music Creatively
by Irving Cheyette Publ. 1969
I found this book to have all the techniques we have discussed in class and much more. There are various developmental concepts used, for example: developing concepts of melody, rhythm, chord skips, scale, harmony, and listening skills. The book also goes over materials which could be used in teaching music such as audio-visual equipment, films and recordings among others. The book has many song varieties for lower, middle and upper elementary school levels, activities for teaching basic movements and sections on how to teach the playing of simple instruments. Highly recommended to keep a copy in your classroom.

Wee Sing Children Songs and Fingerplays
by Pamela Conn Beall and Susan Hagen Nipp
Publ. by Price Stern Sloan, Inc. Los Angeles, CA 1977
The most positive aspect of this book is that the songs incorporate movements. There are at least 15 tunes that involve dancing or physical expression on the part of the student. An additional strong point was the use of teaching basic concepts through music, ie. the recognition of body parts, the alphabet and the number system. There are two major problems with this particular book. I found several songs I liked but the book's lyrics conflicted with those on the tape. Also, songs are very difficult to find on the cassette. Overall, I think it is a valuable purchase. It's relative low price makes it a good deal. And its pros outweigh its cons.

This songbook is designed for mothers as well as teachers of young children. It has a nice assortment of fingerplays and simple songs to introduce children to rhythmic and musical experiences. It includes songs that teach language development such as the days of the week, the alphabet, counting, name and address, farm animals and the sounds they make. The divisions of this small book relate to motherhood rather than a school setting. The Wee Sing Songbook ends with a few seasonal songs. The songbook can be purchased inexpensively at Price Cost Co. and Sams Club.

This little music book and audio cassette passes two important criteria for teachers, affordable and fun. The music book is complete with music, chords, words, and fun illustrations about people, animals and things. The songs are ideal for teaching dynamics, emphasizing a steady beat, and developing rhythm. The table of contents easily divides the songs into several categories. The "silly songs" are simple that - silly!

Covina City Lib. Children's Cassettes #2008
This recording has some educational merit, but many of the songs are more funny, and aimed at being humorous, not educational. The songs are mostly upbeat. They have children singing in the background, which makes the songs more personal for the kids to listen to. I fell that overall, this is a very fun, and entertaining recording.

Prod. by Ta-Dum Productions, Inc., 1988
Label: Golden, Made in USA #4060 (cassette)
Good Things: This cassette designed for pre-school through first grade contains nine lively songs that young children will enjoy listening and signing along with over and over again. Each song is performed using a different style of music, giving each selection its own unique flavor, while offering the children an exposure to different types of rhythms and sounds. David's songs contain positive themes. The quality of the recording is also very good.
Bad Things: The lyrics were not included with this tape. The tape is also relatively short (approx. 30 minutes).

Disney Children's Favorites Vol. 1
Prod. by Jymn Magon
Choral Dir. Betty Joyce
Publ. by Walt Disney Records, Burbank, CA, 1977
Identification #606057
There are a total of 25 children's songs. The same adult sings each of the songs, however, children join in the singing of certain songs. Each individual song is performed with great enthusiasm and the music is very lively with some added sound effects. Along with the cassette or CD, there is a 24 page booklet which has the lyrics to all the songs. While the booklet is great for giving us the lyrics of each songs, it does not have the music notes written out. Overall, upon hearing this recording I felt that it is quiet appropriate for children despite the faults I have mentioned. Disney has put this selection together well, trying to keep children's interest at a high level.

Disney Children's Favorites, Vol. 4
Produced by Walt Disney Records, Burbank, CA, 1990
ISBN: 0-5008-60608-2
Sku Number: 606082 (Song book #:60608-4)
Pros: Includes song book with all the lyrics. Possible uses in Science, History, Simple Italian Language, and general kindergarten concepts. Majority of the songs can be used in the class.
Cons: Song book does not include the staff music. A few songs are useless in my opinion for any educational purpose other than story telling and simple motion.
All in all, this tape and song book has a lot of uses in a creative classroom where kindergarten students are concerned, but other grades might have problems with this CD/tape as older children may not relate well with the songs.

The song book has 20 songs about the history of the United States. It has songs with happy tunes, which children would enjoy for many hours of fun. It tells how actual happenings were seen y the people and how people use to spend the time back in the old days. The musical instruments used in the tape share the same as they used back in those days. Overall, the set of books and the accompanying tapes are very lively and keeps you in a happy mood for many hours of fun and learning experience.

Disney as included seven songs in this video. The songs are from different Disney animated movies. Every song has a caption of the movie in which the animated characters of the movie sings the song. The words of the song are shown at the bottom of the screen, so that one can read the phrases and follow the song. A problem that could be encountered by young viewers is that the words to some of the songs are difficult to read for some grade levels.

Hap Palmer's Animal Antics
by Hap Palmer
Publ. by Educational Activities, Freeport, NY
zm Animal a04
This song book has 12 songs about animals from a dog to a snake. Mr. Palmer suggests some movements that can be don with the children. The songs had a nice rhythm to them but they were not very upbeat, possibly hard for children to keep an interest in them. Vocabulary is integrated into the song book, an informative information is found concerning every animal. I like the way that Hap Palmer had different action words in the songs so children can express them throughout the songs.

It also incorporates many musical concepts pertinent to a 3 - 7 age range. This video can be utilized by one child, as well as by a group of children.
A couple of the songs in the video were a bit slow. However, one of the benefits of video tape is the option of fast forward or repeat, if so desired. As a parent and future teacher, I give it thumbs up......

Kids Sing Praise
Dir. by Gary Musick
Prod. by Brentwood Music, Inc., Tennessee, 1987
This is a live action sing-along video of praise songs. This video is about 30 minutes of elementary aged children lip-syncing, 'acting', and having fun with different songs. The only con of the video is that, while children absolutely love to watch the kids sing praise adults feel it is kind of silly.

The tape follows the music as written in the book exactly, and the book is nice because it is constructed of durable cardboard-like pages with a spiral baking. The music ranges from silly songs, to the more familiar patriotic songs. The unit is designed for the elementary grade students, ranging from kindergarten to 6th grade. There are a few examples of homemade musical instruments. I believe that it will prove useful to the aspiring elementary grade teacher who plans to incorporate music into the classroom.

This book is an illustrated collection of 44 traditional nursery rhymes set to music. The introduction to the book contains information about the earliest references to 'Mother Goose." The illustrations are terriffic. I would recommend the book for use with piano lessons, in the classroom to teach about poetry and rhymes, and as a general, "read aloud to children," book. My only regret is that a recording was not made available with the book.

I thought that this book was incredible. It was written for teachers with a basic knowledge of music skills and forms. Each introduction to a song would begin by stating the objectives and concepts of that song. It also provided suggestions for use with each song and even in some cases how to help the children who are having a hard time with the song. The songbook contains a variety of songs in concerning different subjects. The only negative thing I found with using the book is that tit is old, I would really consider looking for a newer edition.

Illus. by Nancy Spence Klein
Produced by Barry Hagen and Mauri Macy
Publ. by Price Stern and Sloan, New York, NY, 1987
Pros: Song book is very easy to understand. The song book is also a great way for the kids to learn about America's history and about different Presidents. On the top of each song there is a brief history that is written about what brought about each of the songs. The recording that goes along with the song book is wonderful. The songbook helps the kids learn the song by listening the the recording.
Cons: The only thing I did not like about the song book is that it was geared to younger kids.
Overall, I feel this is a wonderful way to learn songs about America.

This tape is a 68 minutes long and contains over 50 patriotic songs and quotes. Many of the songs are sung by children; and all the songs can be easily incorporated into lessons on the history of America. Additionally, for many songs, the songbook also includes a brief description of the song's history.
Overall, I think this tape is very good. For any teacher who plans to teach the history of America, this tape would be very helpful. However, the tape is difficult to work with at time, and can be very time consuming locating the songs.

Wee Sing America song set is a wonderful teaching and learning resource. This set has over 40 different Patriotic and Folk Songs. The set comes with a song book and tape recording of all 40+ songs. Many of the songs are sung by children, and I find that children will often sing along with songs that have the voices of children. The song book that comes with the tape is very well done. It includes the words and music for each song. The added feature to this book is all its informative bits and pieces of added trivia on American history, people and the creators of these songs.
Finally, I feel the Wee Sing America set has done a fine job in choosing a variety of songs which show the multicultural diversity in America.

This book contains songs, stories, and illustrations for children. I thought it was a real inspirational book because it talks about feelings which we all ten to ignore today. I particularly likes the stories because it gave something to prelude into a song that will be taught. The songs were listed by age category so there would be no confusion as to which songs would be appropriate for which ages. However, it did not show how to use various concepts such as harmony or a steady beat. Overall, I would give the book a B+.
