What sources will give investment information about the company?

The “Investments Tables”

Hoovers Company Reports DatabasesFiles for data on 40,000 Companies (includes private companies). Information includes company history, financial data, products or services, a list of competitors, and executives and board members.

Mergent Online (online service of Mergent)Database brings financial data on US companies as well as International companies listed US exchanges.

Mergent Online (online version of Mergent)Database  Mergent includes financials and Edgar filings.

LEXIS/NEXIS Universe  Database
Select "Business" tab, and then "SEC Filings".   Sort companies with the “Dossier Create a Company List”:  by state combined with either Total Revenues or Total Assets.

What sources will give information about an industry?

Standard and Poor NetAdvantage  Database 
See “Industries” tab at top. The Industry Surveys present detailed statistical and analytical data for over 50 industry categories.  You can also search by company.  This is an essential resource for industry research!  Issues for 2008 and earlier in paper in stacks  HC106.6 .S74. 

IBISWorld Database
Over 700 detailed reports on industries organized by NAICS code. Search by key words or open reports from listing.  Note Table of Contents in left column.  Reports reference and link to other reports of similar industries.  These are very detailed and evaluative reports.

Mergent Online Database
See “Industry Reports” tab at top.  Industries worldwide (select a region of the world, North America, Europe, Asia Pacific) going back to 2003.

Value Line Investment Survey  Ref HG4501 .V26 (Ready Reference)
Value Line includes a succinct “Industry Timeliness” report on 92 industries.

How can I find articles about an industry or company?

You can search directly for "Company/Org"; select Advanced Search.

Factiva  Databases

Access to 9,000 business publications. 

Business Full Text  (Wilson Web) Databases Some 350 essential business periodicals are included in this index; abstracts, and some full text.
