Faculty Workshops

Winter Quarter 2007
Part I - Help Your Students Kick the Google Habit and Start Doing College Research

Faculty will be introduced to resources to improve their students' research assignments. If students are able to do better research, they will create more readable papers with an enhanced variety of sources, more in-depth analysis of the research problem, and a better adherence to citation style guidelines. Included will be a subject overview of the Library's databases; the debate over fee versus free websites; using Google Scholar to find the "best" of the free websites and to link back to library journals; as well as using SFX technologies to find the full text on-line. The session will also include a web evaluation worksheet to help your students assess the value of free websites before they use it in their bibliographies.
