When our library doesn't own the book, score, or magazine article that you need, consider checking WorldCat and/or using the free service offered by our Document Delivery Unit. Document Delivery will try to get the material from elsewhere and usually at no charge. Consult Get Materials Not At This Library for advice on the best way to get various materials. Most articles are received within 3 - 5 days, books and scores can take 1-2 weeks. You can also drive to other nearby CSU libraries and use your Bronco card to check out books and scores from their collections. Make sure to take proof of your current enrollment, such as a fee receipt or your class schedule.
Be sure to first check if the recording is in the library catalog, or in CLASSICAL MUSIC LIBRARY, NAXOS, or SMITHSONIAN GLOBAL SOUND. Connect to all three online music services via Library Online Resources for Music.
Many libraries will not lend their recordings through document delivery. CSU Fullerton is the closest library with a large music collection that you can easily use. You may check their holdings through their catalog.
To use the CSU Fullerton recording and video collection, take your school I.D. (with proof of your current registration) to CSUF's Circulation Dept located on the first floor in the South Wing. You will receive the same borrowing privileges as CSUF students. The Audiovisual and Curriculum Materials Center (714-278-2727) is located on the 4th floor of the North Wing and has in-house use only policy. Call to confirm the hours they are open for service.
In the Los Angeles region, the largest single public library collection of music recordings is held by the Brand Library in Glendale (818-548-2051). The Brand Library will allow you to check out their recordings and videos if you go in person and show a California driver license or photo ID plus other proof of a California mailing address.
Also, check the County of Los Angeles Public Library Catalog. Once you see what you want, you can request it to be delivered to the County Library closest to you. You can check out materials by showing a photo ID and proof of your permanent address.
