Examples of Primary music sources:
Primary sources are the firsthand evidence left behind by composers or observers.
Examples are: original (unedited) music scores (urtext), manuscripts scores
(facsimile, autograph, holograph), audio and video recordings of a performance,
contemporary reviews of a premier performance, autobiographies, letters, diaries,
dissertations, the composer’s own website, interviews with the composer,
photographs, books and articles written by the composer
Examples of Secondary music sources:
Secondary sources are at least one step removed from the composer or composition.
They interpret or analyze the composer and music. Examples are: books and articles
about the composer and his works, Festschriften

ProQuest Newsstand - Full text access to over 300 major US and international newspapers, plus hundreds of other news wires and news sources.
Academic Search Elite - Provides full text for over 1,530 academic, social sciences, humanities, general science, education, and multicultural journals. In addition to the full text, it offers indexing and abstracts for nearly 2,720 journals
American Humanities Index - covers over 1,000 journals published from 1975-. Gives citations for articles, essays and reviews, as well as original creative works including, poems, fiction, photographs, paintings and illustrations.
Humanities Fulltext (WilsonWeb)- indexes, abstracts and delivers
the full text of feature articles, interviews, obituaries, original works of fiction, drama, and poetry, book reviews, and reviews of ballets, dance programs, motion pictures, musicals, operas, plays, radio and television programs, and more. Indexing 1984-. Full text 1995-.
Biography Database:
BGMI (Biography & Genealogy Master Index) - citations [not full text] to more than 12million biographical sketches of contemporary and historical figures throughout the world
