| In 1979, through a special Academic Senate resolution, the campus declared April 18, 1979 to be Jerry Voorhis Day in honor of Voorhis, a long-time friend and advisor to the university. The afternoon program of reminiscences and tributes took place in University Park following a period in the library during which Voorhis autographed his books. Speakers included: Senator Alan Cranston; former California Governor Edmund Brown; Congessman George E. Brown; Ted Ellsworth, Chairman of the California State Commission on Aging; John Anson Ford, former member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors; and retired Congressman Chet Holifield. The afternoon's events ended with a reception for Jerry and Louise Voorhis at the Manor House. |
