How to Build a Rose Float: Shaping & Screening

The first act of float building is called shaping. At both campuses, the two steel frames of the float halves are bent and welded into place. Welding is a very important float activity. Almost everyone who has worked on a Cal Poly float has had to wield a welding rod at some point.

After shaping comes the screening process, aluminum window screening is carefully glued onto the steel frame.
