Coming This Quarter: Tiffany Shlain
Hailed by Newsweek as one of the “Women Shaping the 21st Century,” Tiffany Shlain is the founder of the Webby Awards and an award-winning filmmaker. In her documentary, “Connected,” which was chosen by the U.S. State Department and USC Film School to be part of the 2012 American Film Showcase, Ms. Shlain takes viewers on a personal journey, starting with her love/hate relationship with technology as an ever-present force in 21 st century life.

We're pleased to welcome Presidential Innovation Fellow Clay Johnson, co-founder of Blue State Digital, which managed President Barack Obama's online campaign for the presidency in 2008. As director of Sunlight Labs at the Sunlight Foundation, Mr. Johnson built an team of 2,000 developers and designers to create open source tools that give people greater access to government data. In 2009, Mr. Johnson was awarded the Google/O'Reilly Open Source Organizer of the Year, and in 2010, he was recognized as one of Federal Computing Week's Fed 100.
In his provocative new book, The Information Diet, Mr. Johnson likens the modern epidemic of information overload to ever-increasing obesity rates. “As we industrialized our food companies, we've industrialized our media companies,” he said in a recent webinar. As a solution, Mr. Johnson advocates wellness based on conscious consumption of high quality information.

Past Speaker: Salman Khan
Salman Khan is the founder of Khan Academy, a website that provides thousands of educational videos on a wide range of topics, used by students of all ages, including self-paced lifelong learners, and was recently featured on the covers of the Chronicle of Higher Education and Forbes magazine. Mr. Khan's process of partnering with schools to flip the traditional classroom lecture and enabling teachers to provide more one-on-one interaction with their students has been hailed as the future of education.

Past Speaker: Frank Flores
Frank Flores is active in the promotion of STEM education and was recognized for his contributions in 2005 as the recipient of the HEENAC Pioneer Award and 2006 Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers Professional Achievement Award. In 2009 Mr. Flores was recognized by the Engineers’ council as Engineer of the Year for his technical achievements to the aerospace industry.
Join us as Mr. Flores, Vice President of Unmanned Systems at Northrup Grumman, shares the latest in cutting-edge developments at one of the leading aerospace engineering manufacturers in the United States, his experiences working closely with Cal Poly Pomona, a “champion school” from which Northrup Grumman heavily recruits college graduates, and his wisdom about being a lifelong learner after college has become a memory.
