Library instruction is an important component in support of the teaching and learning activities on this campus. The library seeks to foster the development of an information literate community of lifelong learners. The complexity of information access, the diversity of learning styles, and the range of educational experiences among our students are all factors that can only be addressed through a variety of teaching strategies and methodologies.

We continually strive to find ways to diversify and enhance our modes of instruction. Therefore we are promoting the integration of library systems with learning management systems (Blackboard) to increase access to library tools and resources. The use of Blackboard has given us another vehicle to reach faculty and students outside the library walls.

The Blackboard Project enables library faculty to collaborate with faculty and staff to provide all students on and off campus with individual and/or group instruction as needed.

One aspect of this project is the customization of a course or discipline webpage. With input from the faculty, the librarian designs the webpage to highlight resources pertinent to the course. This could include books, periodicals, indexes, databases, websites library guides, and tutorials. Please contact your Subject Librarian  to have a webpage customized for your course.

We also offer classroom sessions in an electronic classroom that allows for the hands-on learning of library resources. This course-related instruction is designed around the information needs of a particular course. These sessions may also include subject bibliographies, library guides, and handouts. We also offer workshops for faculty and students on a variety of resources and areas of research. Individual research assistance is available by appointment for faculty, students, and staff. Also available is point-of-use instruction at the reference desk, via e-mail, and through our 24/7 live reference known as askNOW.
