Lost and Overdue Fines

Lost and overdue fines are cumulative. Total fines from $0.15 to $4.99 will have no affect on your patron or university record and our system does not allow payments for fines under $5.00. However, once they reach $5.00 or more, they must be paid prior to checking out or renewing materials.

Fines must be paid in full, there are no partial payments.  Fines are payable by check, credit card, or online by logging into “My Library Account”CASH NOT ACCEPTED!

HOLDS: When payments are made, HOLDS on Academic Record will not be cleared until the next business day.

Link+:  Lost book fees are forwarded to the owning institution. There are no refunds for Link+ books once a patron has paid for the book.

LINK+

Once an item is 15 days overdue, a bill is issued for $115.00. If a LINK+ item is lost, you must pay $115.00 NON-REFUNDABELE replacement cost. Patrons who return items in damaged condition are also assessed $115.00

PAYING YOUR FINES

You may pay your fines online (logging into “My Library Account”), in person (come to the Library 2nd floor Circulation Desk) or by mail (enclose a check make payable to):

ALL FINES STRICTLY ENFORCED

Fines will NOT be waived for any reasons, e.g.,:

  • Not checking on-campus E-Mail for library notices or were never received due to US Postal Service.
  • Failure to notify the library of an address change.
  • Materials were lent to someone else and she/he returned it late or failed to return it.
  • Materials returned via the US Mail and it was received late or failed to arrive.
  • Materials were returned to another library and it was not received by the due date or failed to arrive.
  • Car or bag was stolen with library material(s) inside.
  • Wallet was stolen and someone else checked out materials on your card.
  • Not checking an items due date.

UNPAID FINES: THE PENALTIES

Failure to respond to a Library BILLING NOTICE may result in your account being sent to the State Franchise Tax Board. Failure to pay your fines will suspend borrowing privileges and will place holds on your transcripts, grades, diploma, registration, and refunds from Student Financial Services.

BILLING PROCEDURES

  1. As a COURTESY, the Library will send an Overdue notice to patrons by E-Mail or by mail to the primary address, if no E-mail address is provided. Patrons are responsible for the date the materials are due.

    If a notice is received, please bring back materials to the Library. Fines will be assessed at the time the materials are returned.
     
  2. If there is no response to the first courtesy notice within 14 days, the overdue material will move into the replacement billing cycle. A BILLING NOTICE will be sent that includes:
     a. The replacement fee that cover the cost of the item.
     b. A $13.30 processing fee per item (non-refundable if paid or replaced).
     c. A $10.00 or $100.00 (depending on the item borrowed) billing fee per item.
     
  3. If borrowed item(s) has been recalled and it is not returned, overdue fines will be charged. Borrowing privileges will be suspended until the item is returned.
     
  4. Failure to respond to a Library BILLING NOTICE may result in your account being sent to the State Franchise Tax Board (Cal Poly Pomona students).
