If you are using Netscape to navigate the World Wide Web but are not completely familiar
with some of its useful features, click for the
Netscape tutorial.

The machine (computer) on which the discussion list resides is a UNIX machine, which does not
recognize the special characters. Therefore,
when using the discussion list to post responses to the questions in French,
you will need to use some HTML coding to create the special French
characters such as é, è etc... Below is a table which gives you the French
character and the HTML equivalent: instead of typing é you will type: é

The discussion list that we will be using for this class is a threaded discussion
list--that is, it can organize topics in a hierarchical manner. When you post a
response to a question, you can post it under the topic question. Unfortunately,
the discussion list environment does not recognize French accents. In order to
to use the special French characters, you will need to type the HTML code for the character. (See above)

You have 2 different e-mail options.
- The first is your own e-mail program, either through the school or through
a private ISP (Internet Service Provider) such as America Online. To reach your
instructor just put in the following name and address: lfucaloro@csupomona.edu.
- The second e-mail option is clicking on the "e-mail" on the menu bar (left column of
web pages) or on the blue button with the question mark, both of which will open up the e-mail function of your Internet browser (Netscape, Microsoft Explorer, etc...)
and allow you to send a message to me directly. If you have not provided your return address to your browser's e-mail feature,
you will get a dialog box letting you know this. In Netscape, you need to go to "Options"
in the menu bar and select "Mail and News Preferences" to set it up.

Whether you own a Macintosh or a PC, and provided you have a
modem and are using cal Poly's internet service or are
connected to a cmmercial internet service provider such as
Primenet or AOL, yo will be able to download RealPlayer for
free from http://www.realaudio.com. This program wil allow
you to access Internet radio stations. There are many
around the world and some of them are in France.
