This is an accounting of the history of Alpha Delta chapter as recalled by Brother Angel Perez (H).

In the Fall of 1996, Brother Angel Perez from Eta Chapter transferred from the New Jersey Institute of Technology to Cal-Poly Pomona. Upon settling into his course work, he immediately began to look at the campus Greek life to determine if there was a need for Lambda Theta Phi in California.  After speaking with several students and confirming with the Office of Student life, Angel Perez (H) realized that the campus had a Latin Greek sorority but did not have a fraternal organization for Latino/Chicano men.

In late September of 1996, Angel Perez had a discussion with one of his classmate, Javier Tinoco, involving the establishment of a Lambda Theta Phi chapter at Cal-Poly Pomona.  The following week, Henry Chacon was approached about the proposed chapter and he was instantly supportive of the project.  With Henry the process of establishing a formal interest group had begun.  Brother Angel (H) contacted the national expansion officer to coordinate the process.  Within a few weeks the group grew to 10 and finally 5 completed the requirements to begin the formal induction in the fraternity.

On November 24th, 1996 two men had successfully completed the fraternity induction process.  The Founding Brothers of the Alpha Delta chapter of Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc:

AD:A1    Henry Chacon

AD:A2    Javier Tinoco

The foundation for the “Ark of Discipline” had been laid.

It was difficult to establish a chapter so far away from other Lambda Theta Phi chapters, but soon expansion took hold at UCR (AZ) and CSULB (AI).  With the help of Brothers like Juan Barron (AI-FB), Gustavo Sagredo (AI-FB), Sammy Aguilar (AI:D) and Josue Cardenas (AU:D) the future of the Cal Poly Pomona chapter was secured (see brother profiles).  As of 2002, the fraternity has 12 chapter in California and several interest groups throughout the state eagerly trying to bring a chapter to their campuses.

The two founding brothers of AD accomplished much more than the establishment of a new chapter.  They had allowed, Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc., the 1st nationally recognized fraternity in the country, to become geographically national as well.  Thanks to the vision of Brothers Henry and Javier the fraternity has been able to establish over 20 chapters throughout the western states of the US.
