I am a lecturer at the Department of Civil Engineering, California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, California. I am an old boy of J/Hartley College, Sri Lanka. I am from Jaffna(Vathiry), Sri Lanka. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka in Civil Engineering. I got my Master of Science (MSc.) and Doctor of Philosophy(Ph.D.) degree in Engineering from the University of California, Davis in Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering. My advisor was Professor K. Arulanandan (MS Cambridge(UK), PhD Berkeley(USA)). My area of research is mainly focused on the evaluation of liquefaction potential of sites using effective stress based, non-linear, fully-coupled, finite element method based numerical procedures with elastoplastic constitutive models and non-destructive in-situ testing. Before-the-event evaluation of the response of infrastructure systems and facilities such as buildings, bridges, port facilities, etc. to natural hazard (earthquake) require in-situ site characterization and validated numerical procedure. These procedures will also help to determine appropriate mitigation measures in addition to the design of safe and economical facilities. I have been using DYSAC2 and SUMDES computer programs to do the numerical analyses. I developed an effective stress based, non-linear, fully-coupled, finite element method based numerical procedure (u-p formulation) with elastoplastic constitutive models to simulate the stress-strain response of soils, to evaluate the liquefaction potential of the soil deposits as a part of my doctoral research applied to several centrifuge model tests prediction, after the event evaluation and before the event evaluation of the existing facilities.
