What is KME?
KME is Cal Poly Pomona’s math club and a national mathematics society.
Do I have to be a math major?
No. You do not have to be a math major to join KME math club. However, to join the KME National Honors Society you must have taken a significant amount of math classes, including Mat 114, Mat 115 and Mat 116.
Why should I join KME?
KME is a great way to meet new people and a great addition to your resume. Networking with other students allows you to find out the best professors to take and will help you find a study partner. We provide up-to-date information regarding the mathematical community and community service activities. We also have a KME stole to wear at graduation.
Do I have to pay to be in KME?
Not really. Many clubs on campus require you to pay either a one time only membership fee or a yearly fee. We only ask that to be in KME you purchase a KME t-shirt, great to wear during our meetings or community service events to represent KME.

Why are your colors pink and grey?
Kappa Mu Epsilon, the national honors mathematical society, chose the colors pink for the wild rose in their crest and the silver of the star in the crest. For more information, visit, http://www.kappamuepsilon.org/pages/about.php.

What if I miss a meeting?
If you miss a meeting, check out our Meetings Archive. There you will find a list of the previous meetings and a link to the agenda we discussed. If you have further questions about a missed meeting, email us at and we will be happy to answer any of your questions.

What are colloquiums?
Colloquiums are talks given by professors, both from Cal Poly and from other colleges, about various mathematical research topics. There are even colloquiums given by students about their undergraduate research. KME encourages students to attend colloquiums to gain a broader knowledge and learn what research is all about.
Do I have to participate in the events? Community, social and fundraising?
You are not required to participate in these or any events. However, KME would appreciate your support. Reaching out in the community can really help you both on applications and resumes. Social events expand your group of friends and relieve the stress of classes. Finally, fundraisers help pay for the pizza and drinks and meetings so please help out!

What is an REU?
REU stands for Research Experience for Undergraduates. REU’s are held at numerous universities across the nation during summer and can range anywhere from 6-10 weeks. During those weeks you will be engaging in undergraduate mathematical research with other students from across the country. Generally the REU program will provide you a stipend, fund your food and travel. This looks great on applications to graduate school and on resumes. Plus it is a great way to travel and meet new people. Typically students apply during Winter Quarter of their second or third year of undergraduate work.
