Online Student Advisory Board
What is the Online Student Advisory Board?
The Online Student Advisory Board consists of four student advisors; one in each of the emphases within the math department: pure (secondary teaching & graduate school), applied, and statistics. The goal of implementing this program is to reach out to first and second year math majors as well as incoming transfer students. Students are welcome to use this service when they need a quick answer to a question about the math program, their classes, professors, schedules, etc.
Why is it needed?
Why not just email a professor you ask? As many of the senior level students can testify to, professors are busy and in some cases, it can be a while before you get a response. In these cases you should be able to get a more timely response from one of our student advisors. In addition, it is possible that the professor simply does not know the answer to your question. The student advisors have the added benefit of having gone through the system from the student’s perspective and also have countless resources to find the answer to your question.
Who is it for?
This voluntary service is aimed at newer math students here at Cal Poly Pomona but is welcome to all students with relevant questions. It is geared more towards people who are math majors, as questions from these students will be the ones most easily addressed by the advisors. However, general questions about the math program are also welcome.
