Update of May 21, 2000

On May 21, 2000, Richard Serpe, Director, Social and Behavioral Research Institute, CSU San Marcos, reported the following:

1.   More than 1000 interviews completed

2.   Phone interviews taking about 22 minutes

3.   Slight modifications made to the scenarios

4.   Interviews producing a full range of responses to the Scenarios.  Most students appear to be in the middle, but others demonstrate a high level of comprehension and competence.  On the other hand, some students found the scenarios a real challenge and thus they pose a challenge for the system.

5.   SBRI is recording a random sample of interviews for a qualitative understanding of the responses.   They will provide the Assessment Task Force with a CD containing some of the best and worst responses to the scenarios.
