Phase Two Study and Report

The Phase Two qualitative study of information competence was conducted in Spring 2001 by faculty researchers from the Social and Behavioral Research Institute at CSU San Marcos.   See Summary Report.    Full report accepted by the Task Force on January 16, 2001.

Next Steps

Ø     Development of an assessment instrument based on the 2000 ACRL Information Literacy Competence Standards for voluntary use on all CSU campuses

Ø     Task Force analysis of the multi-method Phase 2 data

Two Task Force Subgroups convened to continue the assessment work.

Ø     The Test Subgroup began work in December 2001 and is developing questions for an assessment instrument.  The questions will be tested for reliability and validity, and may also be submitted to the Research Triangle for cognitive testing.

Ø     The Data Subgroup meets in late February 2002 and will consider a detailed review of Phase 2 data.  The Task Force is interested in analyzing the appropriateness of the search strategies and resources selected by students to the assigned tasks.  In addition, we are interested in a more detailed comparison of the ACRL Standards against the actual information-seeking behavior of this sample of students.
