An introduction of sorts (Spanish Text)

In Argentina as in most third world countries inflation is a common phenomenon. It is very difficult for people who are from countries with stable economies to grasp what this means. A bill in the pocket which yesterday used to buy a dozen eggs, today may buy only five eggs and maybe tomorrow that bill won't be enough to buy even one egg. This causes people to have a negative perception of fortune. The trust and the value we place on money decrease rapidly, and as time progresses it has very little significance.

When I was a child in school they taught me, simply as a tradition, "that to save is the way to riches," when in reality the best method to invest money was to spend it. A poem from my adolescent years gives an idea of the situation:

I have my pockets full of bills one by one
I look through the store windows
with the hope that someone
has forgotten to raise the prices
but the store owners are more and more
determined
they have nerves of steel for this!
since I was a child
I used to dream of travelling through time
to the past
and that with the same money today
I would buy the entire Rolling Stones discography

I say ten australes
and I don't say a thing
