The Standards of Health Promotion in Higher Education support the delivery of effective, culturally competent community-based health promotion services that lead to individual and community health status improvement. Individuals engaged in health promotion in higher education enhance their capacities and skills to deliver effective health promotion services in higher education by participating in systematic professional development based on the Standards of Practice of Health Promotion in Higher Education.
Campus-wide partners involved in integrated community-based health promotion networks need not be individually proficient in all competencies defined in the Standards and their indicators. However, 1) institutional leadership, 2) campus health care partners, and 3) health promotion practitioners responsible for effective health promotion planning and evaluation should be able to collectively demonstrate competencies for all standards and their indicators.
Please try to provide us with assessments of how key people and/or you feel their or your practice of health promotion reflects the Standards. Instructions for completing and returning the assessment tool (an Excel Workbook) are on the first two sheets. The first sheet has space to indicate who completed the assessment and whether it was for a group or an individual. Each of six sheets has a Standard with the three to 6 indicators plus a space to provide comments on rationale for scores provided (see the sample individual health educator self-assessment below). The last two sheets provide graphic (column chart) comparisons for reflection of the Standards.
In addition to campus-wide partners listed above others may be members of Student Affairs, Faculty Affairs, and student groups such as a Student Health Advisory Board/Committee. They can give a reflection of how their work reflects the Standards or how they perceive your Health Promotion Department reflects the Standards. Again, there is space for respondents to provide comments about the rationale for scores given and what the indicators may mean to them.
