EXPERIENCE

Lead Health Educator, Program Evaluator, Instructor – Division of Student Affairs, Student Health Services and Kinesiology and Health Promotion, California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (1990 – 2002, Retired)

Administrative Responsibilities: Oversaw education services and supervision of two staff and over twelve student peer educators. Coordinated clinical health education for Student Health Services, plus operation of The Wellness Center which has 7,000 visitors per year.

Top Major Accomplishments:

v Implemented award winning research on drinking social norms and safety tips 21st Birthday Card

v Co-chair of National Health Objectives Task Force which developed Healthy Campus 2010

v Supervised administration of American College Health Association National College Health Assessments resulting in 120% of minimum required and other campus wide research efforts

v Evaluated for college health programs, CDC/ACHA HIV Innovation grant; alcohol abuse prevention, and US Department of Justice Prevention of Violence Against Women grant and 5-a-Day

v Implemented of Quality Maintenance and Improvement studies

v Hired trained and supervised Health Promotion and Nutrition students as peer health educators.

v Implemented computerized tailored to the student body health risk assessment with individual report which 600 to nearly 1,000 students complete per year

v Developed “Put Prevention into Practice” “The Wellness Card” program, 4,000 students participate yearly

v Increased The Wellness Center student visits from under 600 per year to nearly 7,000 in four years

v Wrote “Keynote” articles, “Board a Northbound Train” and others on college health vision, mission and goals for Richard Keeling, MD, Keeling and Associates, Inc., www.rkeeling.com

Clinical Responsibilities: Counseled and follow-up for medical referrals for control of blood pressure, cholesterol and weight.  Counseled students in HIV/AIDS pre- and post-tests, eating disorders, abuse of alcohol and other drugs, and stress management.

Additional Tasks: Participant in Faculty Development Center Teaching Circles. Member of Quality Maintenance and Improvement Committee, Student Affairs Assessment Team focusing on customer satisfaction and assessing student concerns.  Facilitator for University customer service training program and multicultural retreats.  Chair of Assessment Committee for Cal Poly Pomona Alcohol and Other Drugs Advisory Committee. Co-chaired the Aids Advisory Committee.  Advisor to Student Health Advisory Committee, BACCHUS GAMMA Peer Health Education Network and Cal Poly Pomona Cycling Club.
