Board a North Bound Train

Foresight in college health must be based on deep insights into trends in technology, demographics, regulations, and lifestyles, which can be harnessed to rewrite health center rules and create a new health service that adds value for stakeholders by having a vision, mission, goals and objectives aligned with the university mission. Spirit and More than Survival through Vision, Mission, Goals and Objectives

Universities want their students to be successful in academics.  Well-articulated vision and mission statements, and goals and objectives are guides and provide inspiration to student health services as they help their universities achieve their mission.  Having these guides indicate that strategic planning has occurred. If these indicators of planning for the future are developed with the university’s mission in mind, a student health service may never have to worry about being seriously considered for outsourcing. The Wellness Card: A Health Promotion Disease and Prevention Program to Help the University Achieve Its Mission

The Wellness Card is a Student Health Services (SHS) program at Cal Poly Pomona to improve the delivery of clinical preventive and health promotion services to improve learning and knowledge by students.  It is a primary method to achieve the Healthy People 2010 Objective 7-3 which specifically addresses the health of college students. The services improved are screening tests, immunizations, and counseling for health behavior change.  Wellness Card materials are designed for use by primary care providers (physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners), to give to students patients, and health educators brief time-efficient one-to-one education sessions.
