The National Health Objectives Committee recommended Dr. Elders be asked to give the key note presentation. The title of her persentation is "Education: The Key to a Healthy Campus." She was asked by the Committee to speak to two education issues. The first area covered Healthy Campus 2010 university mission, physical and mental health and information receipt objectives (pdf file, printed copy provided by Committee Co-Chairs, Lesley Sacher and Jim Grizzell, at dinner meeting prior to the Opening General Session). The second area to speak to is implementation of Healthy Campus Initiatives using the ecological approach and collaborative relationships. She was also given a copy of Healthy Campus 2010, the Standards of Practice for Health Promotion in Higher Education and the National College Health Assessment questionnaire. Dr. Elders believes that healthcare access in itself is not enough without education. She described Healthy Campus 2010 as ACHA's vision for college health and reminded the audience to dance longer than the bear. For details of her presentation go to the ACHA web page. Biography of Dr. Elders is at Gale Schools Women's History web sight. |
