The Physical Cal Poly Pomona:

Location, Borders, Government, Area & Elevation

Location: Approximately 30 miles east of the City of Los Angeles, near the intersection of the San Bernardino Freeway (Interstate 10) and the Orange Freeway (State 57), on the western edge of the city of Pomona.  It has a street/mailing address of 3801 W. Temple Av, Pomona CA 91768 USA. Google Maps shows the basic location. Other maps

Latitude/Longitude from the GNIS Database Interactive with Google Map.
Above: Latitude/Longitude (34.0594548/-117.8239485, which converts to 34° 3' 34.0344" N / 117° 49' 26.1840" W ) from the GNIS Database Interactive with Google Map. The location is in front of Building 1  [ Flash Earth version ]

Another Latitude/Longitude: 34°03' 33.4"N/ 117°49'11.9"W  (Coordinates for the tower of the CLA Building, from Flash Earth.  More exact coordinates for each building can also be had from Flash Earth, if you can recognize the building from an aerial view ). [ About Latitude and Longitude ]

My rough estimate of the center of campus based on the campus boundaries in the photo below (by trying to find the center point of the widest and longest parts of the campus on the X and Y axes) is here (Flash Earth, 34°  2' 56.2" N / 117°  49' 23.3" W), a location in the area south east of the Center for Regenerative Studies.

Borders: "A portion of the eastern Cal Poly Pomona campus is within the City of Pomona. It is also adjacent at certain boundaries to the City of Walnut, the City of Industry and the County of Los Angeles." Master Plan (2000) p 4.5 (Adobe Reader page 30)an aerial photo of the campus with campus boundaries marked on it
Above: an aerial photo of the campus showing campus boundaries; from the Campus Master Plan. (2000)  p 2.5 (Adobe Reader page 13)

Thus far, the best representation of the relationships of the campus to the borders of the neighboring cities I have found is in the popular Thomas Guide: Los Angeles County Street Guide and Directory, on pages 639 and 640.  Unfortunately, the campus is split onto two pages.  You also have to compare parts of the campus boundaries shown on the above photo with the Thomas Guide, particularly the part that borders on the City of Industry., (the Spadra Farm) since the Thomas Guide does not show the campus border for the southernmost part of the campus.
Government:

County of Los Angeles
(City of) Pomona
Pomona City Council District 1 (partial)
State Senate District 32
State Assembly District 61*
Congressional District 38 **
South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) Los Angeles County Eastern Region

Area: "Today, the campus covers about 1,438 acres and is the second largest in area of the California State University’s campuses.  Master Plan (2000), p.4.5 (Adobe Reader page 28). Pomerening has a history of land acquisitions for the campus up to 1990 (pages 2-4). The 1438 acres includes the 53-acre Pine Tree Ranch in Santa Paula, CA.
Elevation: "The topography of the Cal Poly Pomona campus ranges from 900’ above sea level within the agricultural hills northwest of Temple Avenue and drops 175 feet to a relatively flat expanse of land along the eastern edge of the campus near Valley Boulevard." Campus Master Plan (2000), p. 4.7 (Adobe Reader page 32). This means a range of 725-900+ feet.

"The Cal Poly Pomona Campus has at least 500 feet of relief.  The highest points are on the crests of narrow ridges on the northern border of the campus and have an elevation of about 1,140 feet.  The lowest point is where South San Jose Creek leaves the Spadra Farm*, Spadra Farm with lowest point circledwhere the elevation is about 630 feet." Pomerening, p.7.

Neither of the quotes above include the 53-acre Pine Tree Ranch in Santa Paula, CA. Click here for a Trails.com map
that shows the contour lines for the campus area. The contour line interval is 20 feet for solid brown lines, with an interval of 10 feet for dashed lines .

*The "Spadra Farm" referred to above is the parcel of land that is not connected to the main campus (see photos right and above) next to the Lanterman Developmental Center. This parcel is the southernmost part of the campus, and usually not thought of as part of the campus by most people. The South San Jose Creek leaves the property roughly at the blue circle (right), or around this point on Flash Earth. The Thomas Guide: Los Angeles County Street Guide and Directory  shows the course of the South San Jose Creek on page 640.
