THE DEPARTMENT 

The Office of Admissions and Outreach is an organizational unit of the Division of Student Affairs, which strives for excellence through a student-centered philosophy.  The Office is responsible for all outreach, recruitment and admission activities for prospective undergraduate and graduate students.  The Office is charged with meeting the enrollment goals of the University by promoting the image of the University, its programs and uniqueness; attracting and recruiting students with the potential for academic success; developing relationships with the campus and external communities; and providing timely, accurate and comprehensive services to students and the campus throughout the recruitment and admission processes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

The Coordinator is responsible for leading SSP IA level department staff; defines the duties and responsibilities of staff in conjunction with the Director; assesses performance and provides feedback; and designs and coordinates training and staff development.  The incumbent ensures that SSP IA staff members are knowledgeable about and incorporate the Student Affairs Division themes and values in every aspect of performing their positions; coordinates the recruitment tools and ensure that all events, fairs, and visits are updated for accountability purposes; serves as a member of the Weekend/First Friday programming committee to provide input from Admissions and Outreach perspective; and ensures that the Outreach and School Relations portions of the university website are maintained and up-to-date.  The incumbent participates in development, implementation and evaluations of research based University recruitment plans; gathers and reports information germane to the unit and the University; and keeps abreast of federal, state, CSU, University, global and regional issues/trends that impact students in higher education.  The Coordinator plans, coordinates and conducts several on-campus and off-campus outreach and recruitment actives in support of the University enrollment goals which include high school and community college visits, college fairs, early outreach programs, on-site admissions, transfer student days, counselor days, collaborative councils, on-campus pre-admission counseling, and programs to yield admitted students.  The incumbent reviews and evaluates freshman and transfer applications for admission; coordinates special admission programs; submits written summaries on recruitment activities; participates in all Admissions and Outreach, Enrollment Cluster and divisional staff development meetings; attends all major events; serves as part of the Office of Admissions and Outreach coordination team; and advises Executive Director and Admissions and Outreach managers on marketing and public information issues.  The incumbent assists the Enrollment Services management team with long and short range planning and goal setting, policy and process changes, coordination of services and programs, and communication to the campus; prepares enrollment reports; performs administrative and programmatic duties; works extended hours, weekends and evenings in support of Admissions and Outreach programs and services; and performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience AND equivalent to graduation from a four-year college in a related field plus upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing and conflict resolution.  (A Master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience; a doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling, guidance or a job-related field may be substituted for three years of the required professional experience.)  The candidate will have the ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise and organize programs and activities; ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff and the public; and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

A Master’s degree in a job-related field is preferred.  Experience using technology, customer relationship management systems, and well versed in techniques of recruitment through social media; excellent written and oral communication skills; outstanding interpersonal and social skills in dealing with diversity of people; the ability to work independently,  to use good judgment, initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments; and attention to detail and follow-through.  The candidate must have the ability to present and articulate complex requirements and policies concerning admissions; be able to respond to in-person, telephone and electronic inquiries; and proficiency with computers, Internet, word-processing and simple databases is desirable.
