THE DEPARTMENT 

The mission of the eLearning department is to be a resource for faculty to find and use the best technologies in pedagogically excellent ways to support student learning. eLearning provides and maintains facilities, resources, programs, and services that enable faculty to expand their approach to learning, teaching and working with technology at Cal Poly Pomona. With a staff of instructional designers, multimedia specialists, and student technology assistants, eLearning offers a variety of services to enhance learning and teaching both face-to-face and online.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

The Multimedia Developer consults with faculty and staff to identify, analyze and diagnose user needs, and develops specifications for appropriate multimedia or web-based solutions.

Using a variety of software and scripting languages such as HTML 5 Canvas, Actionscript, and Javascript, or comparable technologies, the developer will create interactive multimedia learning objects that enhance course materials to help students understand complex concepts. The development of interactive multimedia will involve creation of digital graphics, animations, sound, video, photographs, images, and writing code in various scripting languages. Most projects will involve production from concept to completion. The developer will collaborate with related experts including IT personnel, Faculty, and Instructional Designers.

The developer will provide instructional design and faculty development support, with an emphasis on implementation of multimedia and web objects; evaluate new web and multimedia technologies for their potential to enhance instruction; work with subject matter experts and instructional technologists to produce online courses and/or digital learning content; contribute to training materials or opportunities for faculty to support their use of instructional technologies, particularly multimedia technologies. The incumbent will contribute to campus or department initiatives or projects to enhance teaching and learning through the use of technology; consult and coordinate with IT teams to maintain the smooth functioning of enterprise technologies (e.g. Adobe products) for faculty, including updates to the system; respond to faculty request for support; maintain and enhance the eLearning website as needed in collaboration with the eLearning team. The Multimedia Developer will maintain and enhance technical, professional, and pedagogical skills through online research, appropriate journals and publications, vendor materials, workshops, conferences and training. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Information Design, Instructional Design, Video Production, Graphic Design or a related field with two years of relevant full-time experience or the equivalent part-time OR eight years of relevant full-time experience OR an associate degree in Information Design, Instructional Design, Video Production, Graphic Design or a related field with four years of full-time experience.

Finalists for this position may be required to submit to and successfully pass a background check prior to being hired.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite and other related multimedia development and graphic design tools is preferred.  Significant experience with web and multimedia development technologies such as HTML5, PHP, MySQL, Actionscript, Javascript, JQUERY and/or comparable technologies for building interactive multimedia is highly desirable.
