THE DEPARTMENT

The mission of the Instructional & Information Technology (I&IT) Division is to provide
stewardship, leadership, and service in support of the teaching and learning mission of the university.  I&IT’s strategic goal is that technology will be recognized as an essential resource in furthering the university’s and division’s mission. MediaVision and Web Development are technical and creative units dedicated to providing a meaningful and interactive web experience, enhanced with video and social media, to a range of stakeholders including future and current students; faculty staff and alumni; and members of our local and global community.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director of MediaVision and Web Development provides vision, leadership, and administration of the MediaVision group and Web Development team.  The incumbent manages high risk, high visibility projects including development of the university website, social media presence and video/multimedia communications; manages the budget and plans proactively for infrastructure capacity and technology changes; collaborates with university stakeholders to identify educational and informational communication needs; develops strategies for the dissemination of web, video and multimedia services and content; communicates the division’s mission, vision and priorities to the MediaVision and Web Development staff; conducts annual assessment of services for management and long-range planning purposes and implements needed changes and provides annual performance evaluations and ensures the professional development of each staff member.  The incumbent serves as a member of the I&IT Leadership Team; consults with academic and administrative departments regarding MediaVision and Web Development services in an effort to leverage resources to further the mission of the university; utilizes knowledge of federal and state laws as they apply to accessibility, information security, and copyright to develop business practices and to create a culture in which staff seamlessly integrates these considerations into their daily activities; and anticipates, identifies, and responds to problems and issues.  The incumbent monitors milestone achievements and takes corrective action if warranted; serves as steward of CPP owned broadcast microwave spectrums; and performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in multimedia design, broadcast communications, computer information systems, or a related field of study from an accredited university AND two years of experience with increasing responsibilities for management of information technology professionals.  The candidate must have demonstrated hands on experience in a broad-range of technology supporting the use of web, video and social media tools; demonstrated experience in IT strategic planning, budgeting and personnel management; demonstrated experience working in a position that required a high degree of customer service skills and a proven commitment to promoting and maintaining a service-oriented culture; and demonstrated experience leveraging technology to achieve the most effective and efficient solutions to support teaching, student learning and business processes.  The candidate must have demonstrated understanding, knowledge, and experience in universal design, usability, Section 508 accessibility standards, accessibility issues, and state and federal laws relating to the accessibility of instructional technology and resources.  The candidate must possess a balance of highly developed management skills as well as specialized technical expertise; ability to develop collaborative relationships with faculty and students as well as technical and nontechnical management and professional staff representing various interests and perspectives; exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to develop an environment that promotes partnerships and transparency with other organizations; knowledge of web, digital media and broadcast communication tools and techniques; ability to manage and motivate technical staff members; and the ability to analyze complex situations such as personnel or operational issues, and to develop and implement corrective actions and strategies for department-wide success.  The candidate must have excellent oral and written skills to effectively communicate with diverse academic and administrative constituencies both on and off campus; ability to manage highly complex projects; ability to apply campus accessibility standards on contents and objects published on websites; strong analytical and technical skills; and high ethical standards and business acumen.  The candidate must be able to work evenings and weekends to support essential campus events and be able to attend meetings off-campus, in which the candidate will be required to personally facilitate all of his or her transportation requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

A Master’s degree in Instructional Technology, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline; teaching experience in higher education; experience in web and digital media production and programming distribution; experience in a large, complex, and diverse public higher education institution; and demonstrated experience with the full implementation of large-scale projects is preferred.
