Facilities Management provides maintenance and construction services for Cal Poly Pomona including Custodial Services, Landscape Services, Building and Mechanical Trades, Fleet Management, Energy and Utility Management and Waste Recycling Management.   


The Facilities Worker is responsible for a variety of miscellaneous maintenance and repair work at the semi-skilled level, including strenuous manual labor.  The incumbent will hand excavate for utilities, trench and form for concrete work, and make minor asphalt repairs; clean, maintain and make minor repairs to roofs, rain gutters and roof drain systems; assist in flood control by setting up barricades and providing sandbags; clean pools, fountains and storm drains; place signs, street signs and banners. The incumbent will install and repair fencing; move furniture, equipment and heavy objects; install earthquake safety preparation anchor fixtures; install bulletin boards, black and white boards, name plates, and other items; assemble and make minor repairs to furniture; lay carpet and floor tile; install ceiling tiles; hang doors; respond to service calls; perform preventive maintenance; repair fixtures, equipment and appliances; assist in facility renovations and new construction; perform vehicle inspections; clean up liquid spills; clean equipment rooms; remove hazardous materials; may be required to wear a respirator; may be assigned work with other crafts workers/co-workers in various shops; assist with plumbing, HVAC, electrical and other repairs, maintenance and projects such as assisting with changing HVAC filters, replacing and re-lamping lighting fixtures and ballasts, and painting buildings; weld, drive and operate tractors, bobcats, forklifts, and other related equipment pertaining to the position.


High School Diploma or its equivalent with a valid California Driver’s License. Any combination of experience and training equivalent to six months of experience as a trades assistant or laborer, OR six months of hands-on experience in general facilities and systems maintenance and repair work; must be able to perform proficiently in a variety of semi-skilled facilities maintenance and repair tasks; operate all applicable tools, equipment and systems; follow standard written instructions and procedures; read and write at a level appropriate to the position; perform simple arithmetic calculations as required by the position; and demonstrate the ability to learn maintenance and repair functions.

Finalists for this position may be required to submit to and successfully pass a background check prior to being hired.


Two (2) years of experience as a trade assistant or laborer in general facilities and systems maintenance repair.
