Payroll Services updates and maintains personal data and employment data; updates and maintains leave accounting records; processes all types of pay for all categories of CSU employees accurately and timely.
The Payroll Technician maintains personal data and employment data in the PeopleSoft HR application and in the State Controller’s Office (SCO) database for all categories of CSU employees by documenting all types of employee and employment related transactions in both databases as well as ensuring that the data in both databases is consistent and accurate at all times. This position also maintains leave accounting records, reviews and reconciles all time and attendance documentation and processes and reconciles pay for all categories of CSU employees. During these processes, the incumbent selects, interprets and applies rules and regulations as outlined in the policies and procedures of the CSU system, various collective bargaining unit agreements, federal and state laws, and education and government codes. Communicates general explanations regarding various payroll, employee benefits, and other miscellaneous information to faculty, staff and students; and performs other duties as assigned.
Equivalent to two years of experience in preparing and processing payroll/personnel documents. Full functional knowledge of and skill set in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures; ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages; have thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation; must be able to communicate clearly in writing and verbally; ability to make advanced arithmetical calculations; work with numbers, names, codes and symbols; analyze detailed numerical records and transactions and meet established deadlines.
Finalists for this position may be required to submit to and successfully pass a Live Scan criminal records check prior to being hired.
Two to five years experience in preparing and processing personnel/payroll documentation, preferably with California State University payroll. PeopleSoft Workforce Administration, Time and Labor, or Absence Management is also preferred. Previous payroll experience with the California State University system or other college or university payroll experience is desirable.
