THE DEPARTMENT:Intercollegiate Athletics functions as an integral part of the educational environment at Cal Poly Pomona.  Its primary mission is to provide student-athletes with experiences that encourage their mental, physical, social and emotional development; enhance their capacity for working with other; and strengthen their decision making and leadership skills.  The department also contributes to the campus community by conducting programs and presenting events in ways that effectively serve the public relations interest of the University and provide opportunities for entertainment and positive interaction.


THE POSITION: Serve as Head Coach, Cal Poly Pomona Men’s Soccer, The incumbent will direct a highly competitive and nationally recognized NCAA Division II program.  The University is a member of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).  Responsibilities include recruiting, coordinating practices and competition, public relations, budgeting, ordering and maintaining equipment, monitoring the strength and conditioning program, academic oversight, fundraising, working with external donors, recommending and evaluating assistant coaches and program associates.  The Head Coach is responsible for following and enforcing institutional, conference, and NCAA policies and regulations relevant to Cal Poly Pomona; and performs other duties as assigned.


Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required; demonstrated history of rules compliance and thorough knowledge of NCAA bylaws; successful collegiate and/or club coaching experience; and demonstrated commitment to the academic and athletic success of the student-athlete. The candidate must have a strong commitment to the welfare of student-athletes and a reputation of integrity, both professionally and in compliance matters;  excellent oral, written communication, and administrative organizational skills; ability to budget, fundraise and recruit and retain academically qualified student-athletes; demonstrated ability working in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural environment; and the ability to meet Risk Management’s driving and insurance requirements as described at’rms/drive_travel.htm; The candidate must have the ability to participate effectively as a team member and to make appropriate independent and procedural decisions; and the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; work extended periods of outdoor activity in varying weather conditions and have the ability to lift 50+ pounds;  understanding and interest in following NCAA, CCAA and University protocols for event management; the successful candidate must possesses or have the ability to secure a valid California driver’s license.   In lieu of a current California driver’s license, a current DMV report (from state of residence) is required as part of the application process; must have insurance; and must be able to achieve and maintain defensive driving certification, and work nights and weekends.  This position is currently on the List of Conflict of Interest Designated Positions for Cal Poly Pomona.  This requires the filing of a statement of Economic Interest on an annual basis and the completion of training within 6 months of assuming office and every two years thereafter.  Finalists for this position will be required to submit to and successfully pass a Live Scan criminal records check prior to being hired.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated level of coaching certification; interest in working with student athletes in a diverse setting and the ability to identify, assist and help secure external sources of support is desirable.


Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
