The Division of Facilities Planning & Management (FP&M) is responsible for the development and protection of the University’s assets and facilities. It is also responsible for the coordinated planning, development and usage of the University’s land and facilities including land master planning, project planning, building design and construction, building occupancy and infrastructure (roads, transportation systems, telecommunications, sewer, gas, water, and electric.)
The Facilities Worker I performs work under the general direction of the supervisor of the electrical shop and is responsible for doing a variety of manual tasks in the maintenance and repair of campus buildings, hardscape, and infrastructure. The incumbent performs a wide variety of semi-skilled maintenance tasks as required; establishes and maintains good customer relations; requires independent performance of a wide variety of miscellaneous maintenance tasks or assignments as a helper to skilled craftsmen in trades and/or classes. The incumbent performs preventative maintenance and routine minor maintenance for electrical apparatus, changing ballasts, pulling wires, changing fixtures, switches and outlets; requires knowledge of how to read a writing schematic to replace ballast. The incumbent works with other crafts workers/co-workers in various shops; performs welding; drives and operates tractors, forklift, equipment moving vehicle and other related equipment pertaining to the position.
High School Diploma or its equivalent with a valid California Driver’s License. Any combination of experience and training equivalent to six months of experience as a trades assistant or laborer, OR six months of hands-on experience in general facilities and systems maintenance and repair work; must be able to perform proficiently in a variety of semi-skilled facilities maintenance and repair tasks; operate all applicable tools, equipment and systems; follow standard written instructions and procedures; read and write at a level appropriate to the position; perform simple arithmetic calculations as required by the position; and demonstrate the ability to learn maintenance and repair functions. Finalists for this position may be required to submit to and successfully pass a Live Scan criminal records check prior to being hired.
Knowledge of backhoe operation, welding, MIG, TIG< Arch, gas and soldering.
