THE DEPARTMENT 

Student Outreach & Visitor Services is responsible for all outreach, recruitment and admissions functions and services for prospective undergraduate and graduate students and plays a key role in enrollment planning and reporting; the department is charged with meeting the enrollment goals of the University through collaboration with other key campus constituents in the development of enrollment targets and strategies; promoting the image of the University, its programs and uniqueness; attracting and recruiting students with the potential for academic success; developing relationships and collaboration with campus and external constituents; providing timely, accurate and comprehensive services to students and campus throughout the outreach, recruitment and admission processes.  The Office of Admissions and Outreach is housed within the Division of Student Affairs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Reporting to the Executive Director of Admissions and Outreach, the Director of Student Outreach and Visitor Services is responsible for promoting and supporting the University’s enrollment and persistence goals by planning, developing, implementing and assessing strategic marketing, outreach, event and advertising plans for students and their families; coordinating all outreach and recruitment activities and programs and developing strong external relations with feeder high schools and colleges and community groups.  The Director is responsible for providing leadership and oversight for the Visitor and Information Centers, campus tours and outreach and recruitment activities and programs.  Specific duties include conducting research; consulting with key stakeholders; planning, developing, implementing and assessing strategic outreach and communication plans; building external relations; managing the budgeting, development and production of university recruitment publications and surveys; hiring and developing professional and administrative staff, serving on various committees.  The incumbent will be participating in professional development activities; establishing annual work plans with measurable outcomes; reporting statistical and qualitative information; creating and maintains a seamless, consistent, service-oriented culture; and assisting the leadership team with long and short range planning and goal setting policy and process changes.  These functions require coordination and collaboration with the enrollment departments, other Student Affairs offices, the Office of Public Affairs, the Office of Institutional Research, Assessment and Planning; the academic colleges and professional schools.  With this position’s broad knowledge base of university information, the Director is called upon to serve as a principle resource for division and university level event committees, advisory committees and task forces; and perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidate must have a Master’s degree in a related field AND a minimum of five years experience in outreach, recruitment, marketing and communication and five years experience in the delivery of services and programs to students and external constituents; must have excellent written and oral communication skills; and outstanding interpersonal and social skills in interacting with a diverse population. The candidate must have knowledge of higher education and enrollment management issues, policies and practices; the ability to work independently, use good judgment, initiative and resourcefulness in planning and implementing work strategies and programs; lead and motivate staff and effectively present and articulate complex requirements and policies concerning enrollment services.  Must be proficient with a PC environment, the Internet, word processing and simple databases and must have the ability to manage change and the ability to use technology in the development of print, web and media publications.

The salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
